Image result for europa moon The Hubble space telescope has found something very interesting on Europa, and Nasa will be announcing the findings today at 2 pm EDT (which is 11:30 pm in Indian Standard Time). The details are sparse at this moment, but the announcement is related to the possible presence of a subsurface ocean on Europa. It has long been theorised that the icy planet is housing a warm ocean beneath the icy crust. Unfortunately, Nasa has ruled out thepossibility of that the announcement will involve extraterrestrial life. The press has been invited to a teleconference. The participants at the teleconference include senior Hubble project scientist Jennifer Wiseman and Paul Hertz, director of the Astrophysics Division at the NASA Headquarters in Washington. Those interested in listening in to the audio of the teleconference, and hear the details of this announcement first hand, can tune in to the Nasa live feed at 11:30 pm today. The discovery is from the Hubble Space Telescope, that is in low Earth orbit. Hubble had recently discovered a Saturn mass gas giant in orbit around two red dwarf stars. The Juno spacecraft from Nasa is closer to the discovery, in a pole to pole orbit around Jupiter. The discovery of a subsurface ocean on Europa could make the icy moon an attractive destination for potential human colonies in the outer solar system. Earlier today, Elon Musk test fired the Raptor, an interplanetary transport engine, which could be used to establish a base on Europa.
