H uawei’s Honor brand has been around in India for the last couple of years and gradually the company has improved the products. In fact, in 2015 the company became very outlandish and launched what I considered to be one of the best camera phones around in the Honor 6 Plus. It was also one of the first phones that came with a dual bionic camera setup something that’s been in vogue all through 2016 with the iPhone 7 Plus having twin rear cameras. Now with its latest offering, Huawei is betting big on a dual camera for an affordable price. The Honor 6X is officially the most affordable dual rear camera phone you can get in India. Huawei has invested 5 years of work in democratising this dual camera technology. This alone would pique the curiosity of the average consumer, but the Honor 6X goes well beyond this by offering some impressive specifications that would rival the likes of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4. So there’s immense potential, but does that potential convert to superlative performance? I find out the answer to that question.

The Good

When you ask what’s good in the Honor 6X, then I am going to say, there is a hell of a lot of things that the phone gets right. And it all begins with the super dual cameras on the back. It has a 12-megapixel camera which has a phase detect autofocus system coupled with a 2-megapixel camera which acts like a depth sensor and as a black and white camera. This results in some of the best low-light images I’ve seen from a smartphone at this price point. You get very well lit photos in dim environments which is impressive. In good lighting too, the phone is able to take some very nice shots that come with ample amounts of details.
